Bampfield Hall was built in 1872.
James
Bampfield built the house for his wife Margaret, who was not
happy with their first house (located a few streets over on
Bampfield St)
For
generations the property remained in the Bampfield family, it
was finally sold by John Bampfield in 1969.
Around 1999
the property was turned into a Bed & Breakfast, at which
time much of the original interior was fixed and
restored.
Wayne and
Stefanie purchased the house in Aug 2009, and have
since restored the exterior of the house to look as it
would have in 1872.
Archetectual Notes:
The house was
built primarily in the Gothic Revival style with pointed
windows, a jerkinhead roof and gingerbread trim in the
gable ends. Its upper structure exhibits the second
empire style elements of a mansard roof on the central
tower and iron cresting on the roof.
The
classic style veranda was a later 20th century
addition.
